  • Q: I am a Junior player and I want to fill in for a Midweek game, can I?

A Junior player who is a registered player in the 2024 Junior Winter Roster can fill in for their club's midweek teams. A cost of $12 per game will be invoiced to the club after each game. There is no limit on the number of games this player can fill in for.

Q: I am a Midweek player wanting to fill in for another Midweek team, can I?

Yes, a Midweek player may fill in for a team in a higher division than their registered division only. If a club has two teams in the same division, that is not considered higher and therefore not permitted.

If a Player takes the court for more than 22 quarters as a fill-in in a higher team, that player will become a member of the highest division team they have played with and will no longer be able to take the court with their original team.

Eg: Player A is registered for Div 7. Player A during the season fills in for Div 6 for 12 quarters, Div 5 for 5 quarters, Div 4 for 2 quarters, and Div 3 for 3 quarters. This is a total of 22 fill in quarters. Player A will now be registered with the highest division team they have filled in for, which is Div 3 and is no longer able to take the court with their Div 7 team.

Q: I am a Junior player wanting to fill in for another Junior team, can I?

Yes, a Junior player may fill in for a team in a higher division than their registered division only. If a club has two teams in the same division, that is not considered higher and therefore not permitted.

If a team Player plays for more than 22 quarters as a fill-in in a higher team, that player will become a member of the highest division team they have played with and will no longer be able to take the court with their original team.

Eg: Player A is registered for U11 Div 2. Player A during the season fills in for U11 Div 1 for 10 quarters, U13 Div 1 for 5 quarters and U13 Div 2 for 7 quarters. This is a total of 22 fill in quarters. Player A will now be registered with the highest division team they have filled in for, which is U13 Div 1 and is no longer able to take the court with their U11 Div 2 team.

Q: Can someone not registered in any NTNA competition fill in for our team?

Yes, a single game fee of $20 can be paid for a fill-in player; a person who has not registered with Netball Tasmania in any NTNA competition in the 2024 year. Clubs will need to notify the NTNA prior to the player taking the court. A link will then be provided to the member to register and pay the registration fee. A receipt must be provided to the NTNA and Match Official prior to taking the court.

A fill-in player can use the single game fee link three times before having to pay the full roster fee to continue playing. Details on costs to upgrade to registered player are noted on the NTNA Schedule of Fees.

Q: I'm and U19 player, which Midweek divisions can I fill in for?

The U19 competition sits between the Div 4 and Division 5 competitions. In 2024, the U19 competition has been merged with our Div 4C competitions, meaning an U19 player can fill in for Div 1, Div 2, Div 3, Div 4A or Div 4B.

Q: I'm just filling in, do I need a playing uniform?

Yes, all on court players must be in the club's playing uniform. This does not necessarily just constitute a dress, it can be a top and shorts.

Q: Can I fill in during Finals?

A player that has qualified in their on division and has not played too many games in a higher division throughout the season is eligible to fill in for a higher team during any finals game.

  • Q: Do I need a qualification to umpire Junior games?

Yes, all umpires that officiate any NTNA games must hold a current umpiring qualification (Foundation, C Badge, B Badge, A Badge etc). A copy of an umpires qualifications must be provided to the NTNA or Match Official prior to taking the court. You must also hold a Netball Tasmania Affiliate Membership (as a Player or an Official) and a valid WWVP Card (if you are over the age of 16).

Q: What is the dress code for NTNA umpires?

    NTNA umpires must wear:

    • Appropriate court footwear

    • NTNA Umpiring Top (or a white/cream top or white/cream jacket/jumper)

    • Black shorts/pants/skort

Club uniforms must not be worn whilst fulfilling any NTNA umpiring duty. Per the NTNA Umpiring Policy, any umpire failing to wear the correct umpire uniform as per Clause 3 shall not receive their NTNA allotted  payment for that duty.

Q: How many games can I umpire?

You may participate in a maximum of two games per day.

For example, you can umpire two games per day (with the exception of Div 1, 2 or 3, which you may only umpire one game a night), or umpire one game and play one game, or play in one game and fill in for one game.

This is to avoid umpire/player fatigue and share the load across our umpire pool.

Clubs are responsible to nominate a minimum of one suitably qualified umpire to each team registered, who has the knowledge and skill to umpire at the division that the team is in.

Therefore, if your club has eight teams playing Midweek, the club must provide a minimum of eight umpires to be available on corresponding game days in the Midweek Umpire Pool.

If your club also has a five Junior teams, you may nominate an Umpire for both a Midweek and Junior team. It is strongly encouraged you allocate multiple umpires for each registered team, in anticipation of likely unavailabilities throughout the season.

If your club is nominating more than one team on a night, you will need to provide a different umpire for each team nominated on that night.

Please see the NTNA Umpiring Policy for further details here: https://www.ntna.org.au/_files/ugd/60f40c_23591f4524ee4301876d844c8410cdac.pdf

Yes, all teams for any NTNA games must have a qualified coach present to take the court. You must also hold a Netball Tasmania Affiliate Membership (as a Player or an Official) and a valid WWVP card (if you are over the age of 16). This is checked off at each game by the Match Official.

Yes, all adults require a current WWVP card to coach and/or umpire. All coaches and umpires are required to supply this to the NTNA at the start of the season.

  • Q: How do Rolling Substitutions work?

Teams will be allowed to make substitutions at anytime during play, this includes during stoppages and intervals. There is no limit to the number of substitutions that can be made, and more than one substitution may be made at any time. Play will not be held for substitutions.

    For substitutions made during play:

    1. The substitution area will be the point at which the sideline intersects the transverse line closest to each respective team’s side of the Score Bench.

    2. Players substituting on to the court must wait in the area until their corresponding player leaves the court. A tag (with hands) must be made by the player leaving the court prior to the substitute entering the court.

    3. Players must observe the offside rules as they enter/leave the court and must not interfere with the umpire’s vision or movement at any stage. In order to adhere to offside rules, players at GS and GK whose team bench is at the opposing end of the court must leave the court within their ‘legal’ third and make their way down the mid-court sideline to the substitution area.

    4. If a substitute player enters the court incorrectly, they will be required to leave the court and re-enter correctly and a free pass may be awarded against them.

    5. A player leaving the court under substitution must return to their team bench area.

    6. The score bench must be notified of any changes in order to accurately record players that have taken the court.

    Q: How does E-Scoring work?

See our explainer on E-Scoring here or visit Netball Australia's Support Article with step-by-step instructions.

Q: How many quarters do you need to play to qualify for finals?

Under the new E-Scoring system, we are only able to record once a player has taken the court for the game, not the number of quarters played. Therefore, a player must take the court for a minimum of 70% of rostered games to be eligible to play finals. If a player fills in for a higher division for more than 50% of rostered games, they will be considered a member of the higher division team and unable to take the court again with their original team.

  • Q: What do my NTNA Fees cover?

For the NTNA Winter Roster 2024, fees are made up of 3 parts:

Netball Australia Affiliate Fee (set by Netball Australia)

Netball Tasmania Affiliate Fee (set by Netball Tasmania)

NTNA Roster Fee (set by the NTNA, inclusive of GST and PlayHQ admin fee)

Additionally, each club will have a Club Fee that is either invoiced via PlayHQ at the time of registration or throughout the season to their members.

The Netball Tasmania affiliate fee covers you under insurance for any injuries sustained during Netball Tas sanctioned competitions.

The NTNA only has control over the NTNA Roster Fee, which is calculated based on the requirements to run the Winter Roster, this includes the weekly payment of umpires, first aid officers, match officials, gate officials and NTNA staff. It also goes towards purchasing equipment, netballs, hire of the Silverdome, rent, cleaning and expenses for the Tasmanian Netball Centre and administrative costs associated with running a 7 month competition. $2 per player, per rostered round is also included to cover player gate entry fees.

Extensive research and planning has gone into the 2024 season and every endeavour has been made to keep fees for our participants as low as possible. We recognise that the cost of living in our climate is growing, but these same increases have been felt at the NTNA, too. The last increase to the NTNA Roster Fee was in 2019 and it was noted at the 2023 NTNA AGM that for 2021 and 2022 the NTNA ran at a loss and broke even in 2023. We appreciate our members understanding in that we are doing everything possible to run the most cost effective and enjoyable season for our members.

Q: Who has to pay Gate Entry Fees and when?

Only spectators are required to pay the $2 Gate Entry Fee, which is applicable at all rostered games (including finals). Players, umpires and coaches are not required to pay when attending their games and children under 12 are free.

Payment can be made by cash or card and the NTNA will have multiple game passes available.

Q: How can I see the NTNA Schedule of Fees for 2024?

The NTNA Schedule of Fees and all current policies, forms and procedures can be found in the Policies tab as well as emailed to all clubs.
